The Study Of Ye Jiaying’s Research On Tang Poetry

As a master of poetry study with great knowledge both from China and western countries,Ye Jiaying’s unique research methods and achievements have been increasingly received the attention of scholars since the 1980s.However,compared with her Ci study,Ye Jiaying’s study of Tang poetry is seldom discussed.Throughout her study of Tang poetry,Ye Jiaying not only discussed and explored comprehensively,her study covered the poets and their poems in four different stages of the Early,Zenithal,Middle,and Late Tang poetry,but also clarified the development of Tang poetry.Moreover,Ye Jiaying had made thorough and meticulous study of the poets with outstanding achievements and far-reaching influence.In addition,when discussing some issue not discussed enough or less deeply,Ye Jiaying put forward her own different views which enlightened correlation studies.Therefore,it is worth paying attention to her study of Tang poetry.Ye Jiaying took Du Fu and Li Shangyin as the focus of her study of Tang poetry,and she deemed that Du Fu was profound emotional and Li Shangyin was famous for his subtle sensibility,which were the reasons for their unique style of poetry.On the basis of mastering the general characteristics of Du Fu’s poetry,Ye jiaing attached great importance to the achievement of Qilv,and pointed out Du Fu’s transcendence in syntax,imagery and emotion with Qiu Xing,thus affirmed his classical status.In addition,Ye Jiaying showed the inheritance of Li Shangyin’s poetry styles to predecessors,and highlighted the unique style of his subtle mythology,which showed the inheritance and originality of Li Shangyin’^poetry in an all-round way.At the same time,Ye Jiaying explored and analyzed the unique aesthetic characteristics of Li Shangyin’s poems,and put forward a perceptual interpretation to fit the spiritual core of his poems,so as to better solve some problems left behind by previous studies,thus making a more fair evaluation of Li Shangyin’s historical position.Ye Jiaying’s research on Tang poetry has distinct characteristics.The-combination of sensibility and rationality,and the intersection of Chinese and Western theories have inspired many scholars.However,there are also some disadvantages in her research on Tang poetry,such as inadequate theoretical construction,and biased evaluation of some poets and poems.Ye Jiaying’s research on Tang poetry is an early example of using western literary theory to study Chinese classical poetry.To sort out her research can not only show her unique features in the study of Tang poetry,but also inspire scholars to think about how to study Chinese classical poetry and Chinese classical literary theory in the face of the western literary theory’s shock.
