As is known to all,English learning is closely associated with phonetics,grammar and vocabulary.And vocabulary learning is the basis in the process of grasping English efficiently.From lots of the usage of language,the process directly has to do with learner's comprehensive language application ability.Meanwhile,to learn vocabulary is conducive to improving the understanding of English language.Hence,vocabulary teaching is an indispensable part during the whole teaching process naturally.However,English language has amount of vocabulary and complicated semantic transformation,and vocabulary teaching has always been regarded as a difficult aspect in senior high school English teaching.Although a lot of teachers have already realized this problem,there are many misinterpreted about English vocabulary teaching.They are still restricted to give interpretation and analysis of words pronunciation,form and meaning,and simply show the corresponding Chinese meaning.This behavior not only can lead students to memorizing mechanistically,but only pay more attention to the literal meaning of each word as well as ignoring the effect of context on lexical meaning and failing to realize the important role of cognitive factors in vocabulary teaching.It is inevitable that the effect of English vocabulary teaching is not perfect for a long time.In order to improve the influence of vocabulary teaching,some teachers have to try their best to seek for new methods and introduce conceptual metaphor theory into English vocabulary teaching.To some degree,language is the one of the most important aspects of human cognition and it is identified as a product of human cognition,and metaphor is a tool.As a result,it is of far-reaching significance to further explore metaphor theory from the perspective of cognition for English learning,especially for vocabulary learning in seniorhigh school.This combination of theory and practice may help students accurately understand the meaning of words and master vocabulary flexibly.Therefore,the research mainly focuses on conceptual metaphor theory and vocabulary teaching.Conceptual metaphor theory emphasizes the importance of human cognitive factors in the process of vocabulary learning,which guides a new direction for senior high school English vocabulary teaching.By reviewing the previous scholars' research,the author associates the relevant knowledge of conceptual metaphor theory with the specific condition of current high school English vocabulary teaching,and explores the impacts of conceptual metaphor theory in English vocabulary teaching.The author also tries to discuss the following two research questions:1.How does the teacher apply metaphor theory help students understand and use vocabulary quickly and accurately,especially in the learning of idioms?2.What's the influence on students' interest and enthusiasm for English vocabulary under the guidance of conceptual metaphor theory?Follow the principle of coming from practice to practice,the author carries out an experimental research on two paralleled classes.They are divided into Controlled Class(CC)that are going to be taught with traditional vocabulary teaching method and Experimental Class(EC)that are going to be taught with conceptual metaphor theory,and some principles of conceptual metaphor elaborately.Before the experimental research,whole students who are chosen need take an exam.According to the data analysis of the pre-test results,the author designs the questionnaire and conducts a preliminary questionnaire survey on the selected students.At the end of the semester,two classes were tested again to find out the effect of conceptual metaphor theory in English vocabulary teaching.Finally,questionnaires are made additionally in the two groups,and then the data collected are analyzed to reach conclusion before and after the experiment.It can be seen from the conclusion that conceptual metaphor theory can help studentsunderstand and use vocabulary quickly and accurately,which also plays an important role in mastering the cultural connotation implicit in idioms.Students' interest and attitude in learning English vocabulary has also been greatly enhanced.In addition,for teachers,it is possible to change current traditional vocabulary teaching methods and provide new perspective to improve the teaching of senior high school English vocabulary.
