The Comparison Of Custom Between Songkran Festival In Thailand And Splashing Festival In China

Songkran festival and Water Splashing festival are two of the most important festivals for Thai and Dai people,respectively.Nowadays,these festivals can be called as the new year days.Therefore,this thesis shows the understanding and creativity in the culture of each tribes.That focus on Thai's Songkran ceremony and Dai's Splashing festival.We focus on comparing the similarities and differences about origin,history,ceremony,and hidden agenda of these festivals.The main parts of this thesis consist of introduction,main work,and conclusion.For the introduction part,we will talk about the purpose of this thesis.Moreover,we summarize other researches corresponding to this topic.The objective and scope of this thesis will be discussed in this part.Finally,we will present the research methodology.The main work can be divided into four chapters.In Chapter 1,the historical origin of both Thai and Dai will be presented.This includes the effect of religion to these festivals,culture,and cultural exchange between these two tribes.The study of counting calendar has been studied in Chapter 2.We focus on the relationship between new year day on the calendar and Songkran day.Furthermore,the study of history and how this festival becomes convention also shown in this chapter.For Chapter 3,we study the main part of Songkran and Splashing ceremonies.They consist of comparing ritual and some hidden agendas.Finally,in Chapter 4,we present some similarities and differences of both ceremonies.For the conclusion part,we can conclude that Thai and Dai people have the same ancestors.Furthermore,they are Buddhism.Since the effect of religion,Thai and Dai allow these festivals to be as their new year days.Because these two tribes receive an affect from Buddhism in India,most of the hidden agendas for these ceremonies relate to both Buddhism and Brahmanism.Moreover,water is the most important thing for these ceremonies.Thai and Dai people believe that water is the holy thing.It represents the pureness and luck.However,these two tribes are in different countries,so they are influenced with different culture and society.Hence,if we investigate the details of these new year days for Thai and Dai,we will also see some differences.Therefore,this thesis shows the understanding and creativity in the culture of each tribes.
