A Corpus-based Analysis Of The Translator's Style From The Perspective Of Androgyny

Traditionally,translation is regarded as an imitative activity rather than a creative one in that the translator serves only the source text and aims at reproducing the style of the source text.With the continuous development of translation studies,people's understanding of the nature of translation has been deepened,and the translator's style has gradually become one of the focuses in translation studies.Generally speaking,the translator's style refers to the translator's traces left by the translator in the process of translation.Specifically,it can be the choice of translation strategies and the preference for translation expression.Scholars such as Holmes and Toury advocate the use of descriptive translatology to study translator's style,while the rise of corpus-based translation research has gradually shaken off the sporadic and subjective research model,thereby providing an opportunity for comprehensive and objective evaluation of translator's styleAndrogyny is not a novel concept but primarily refers to the coexistence of masculinity and femininity in the same person.If it is the case,whether male translators can faithfully reproduce the feminine style and thoughts of the original works is the core issue of this thesis.Jane Eyre is a literature work with distinct feminist characteristics by Charlotte Bronte,a female writer.The presents study chooses the Chinese versions of Huang Shuren,a female translator,and Song Zhaolin,a male translator,as the research subjects.In this study,a parallel corpus of the original and the two translations is established,and a multitude of examples are compared,and the background and ideology of the two translators are supplemented to make a comparative analysis of the reproduction and recreation of the female language style of the original in the Huang's version and Song's version.Through comparative analysis,it is discovered that Song Zhaolin,a male translator,not only reproduces the distinct feminine linguistic features of the original text well in terms of linguistic features but also examines the original text from a feminine perspective.By re-creating the original feminine style,he aims to improve the status of women in the novel and eliminate discrimination and extreme phenomena generated by gender factors in translation.The study reveals that translators can identify the works of opposite-sex authors,realize the transformation of gender identity in the process of translation by putting themselves in the original work and understanding the original author's psychological state and writing purpose more accurately.Synchronically,translators with an androgynous mind can reproduce the original work's writing style in the target language.
