A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Redevelopment Project Of Bombay Development Directorate Chawls

With the development of global economic integration,Chinese companies have participated in many international engineering projects.In projects,engineering project contracts have been signed to specify parties' rights and responsibilities so translation plays an important role in Chinese-foreign cooperative engineering projects.Redevelopment Project of Bombay Development Directorate(BDD)Chawls is an international competitive bidding engineering project,and author receives this translation task of engineering contract from Translation Company.This translation report takes this translation project as case studies to solve translation difficulties and to explore its translation solutions in the E-C translation of engineering contract.This translation report consists of four chapters: translation project description,translation process description,translation project difficulties as well as relevant solutions,task assessments and suggestions.This report mainly discusses two translation difficulties encountered by the author in the E-C translation of engineering contract,namely,the E-C translation of passive voice sentences and long sentences.By analyzing differences of passive voice sentences and long sentences between English and Chinese,the author studies the solutions to the translation of passive voice sentences and long sentences under the guidance of Eco-translatology theory.The author thinks that in the E-C translation of passive voice sentences,translation strategies of literal translation and free translation can be adopted and in the E-C translation of long sentences,translation techniques of syntactic linearity,inversion as well as division can be used.The translation in linguistic,cultural and communicative dimension transformations can be realized smoothly by those solutions,so that readers can understand the translation.The author does hope that this report can give reference to those who translate passive voice sentences and long sentences in the E-C translation of engineering contract,so the translation can be accepted by readers.
