The High School English Curriculum Standard(2017 edition)states that it is important to cultivate the thinking quality for students.What's more,the critical thinking is one of vital parts in the thinking quality,because it can promote the creation.Then,the class in the middle school connects to the class in the high school,so,it is necessary to cultivate the critical thinking in the middle school in advance.And,the reading class is the main lesson type for cultivating the critical thinking.How to cultivate it has raised the attention of teachers.The writer collects the material from classroom video by five different teachers,who are in different regions,ages,and genders,and analyze the material by observing the classroom.This article is based on the features of the questions,the relationship between the teacher's questions and the student's answers,the features of the feedback of the teachers and the thinking features of students' answers,to find out how teachers cultivate interpretation skill,analysis skill,inference skill,evaluation skill,explanation skill and self-regulation skill,which are critical thinking.The study finds that in English class,teachers' questions prefer to cultivate the explanation and analysis but evaluation and self-regulation are in the least parts.The way of interactivity between teachers and students is too single and teachers prefer to give questions and let students volunteer to answer the questions.What's more,teachers ignore the way of asking questions by students.Then,the type of questions influences the thinking levels of the answers of students.In general,students give the answers of expressing opinions,explaining the cause.What's more,teachers pay little attention to asking questions again for teachers' feedback.In the different reading material,teachers cultivate different critical thinking.The author wants to bring greater awareness to cultivating the critical thinking and adjust the distribution of the teachers' question,the way of interactivity between teachers and students,the teachers' feedback and the choice of the reading material,which can put into practice in English teaching.
