Vocabulary is the basic element of language, and is of critical importance to social communication.Children with ASD acquire vocabulary and learn to communicate differently from typically developing children,They also do not utilize flexible strategies to learn new vocabulary.Early diagnosis and treatment can help improve the development of them, behavioral techniques such as shaping and reinforcement have been successful, but individual teacher-pupil learning techniques are time intensive and expensive, most children with autism find task repetition boring and frustrating.AR technologies empower people to better understanding their surroundings by combining reality with virtual contents in meaningful ways, which can exert the visual advantage and motivation of children with autism. It provides a new way to improve vocabulary acquisition. The study aims to explore the effect of therapy based on AR technology for empowerment of vocabulary learning. The dissertation analyzed the feasibility of the augmented reality intervention system.According to the child development psychology and intervention strategies of children with autism, this paper detailed demand analysis of the application, and the functional modules were designed.Secondly, the technical analysis and developing tools are carried out, finally a function testing is completed. The function modules mainly include augmented reality function, interactive function of rotating and scaling the recognized model, and animation of the model, sound effect triggering and screen capture. We select Unity3D as the development platform,3DS MAX as 3D modeling software, use EasyAR augmented reality development kit,and implement interactive functions with C#script. The design is aimed to promote autistic children to learn some words by interacting with mobile devices, viewing 3D models, triggering audio and animations. The key steps in the development are described in the implementation section, including how to make 3D models and animations, setup and preparation of the development environment, and implementation of interfaces and interactive functions and Android platform release testing. Finally, the system's interactive functions, picture recognition performance and compatibility were tested, and improvements are made based on the test results. In section two,in order to verify the effectiveness of the system,an empirical study involving 28 children with autism aged 3 to 9 are divided into two groups,Children's learning of words, attention, and vocal imitation was compared in a augmented reality program and a traditional computer-assisted methods. The results showed that the interventions in both groups achieved improvements,AR group get higher scores in vocabulary identification and vocabulary naming, and is directly relevant to increased attention.Besides, children are more interested in AR materials. Results indicate that AR can help effectively promote autistic children's vocabulary learningIn the end,We investigated system usability and limitations of the proposed AR system.Implications are considered for the development of AR systems for children with autism.
