This report is a Chinese-English translation project of the first and third chapters of the book Study on Roof Greening Technology in North China, which belongs to scientific and technological texts. The author translated more than 10,000 Chinese characters and the content mainly includes "the general situation of the urban environment in the north" and "the types of roof greening and building requirements".In the process of translation, the author found that there were a large number of non-subject sentences in the original text. However, except imperative sentences, there are no sentences directly corresponding to Chinese non-subject sentences in English, which has become a major problem in the English translation of the text.On the basis of Newmark's communicative translation theory, the author summarized the translation methods of non-subject sentences in the first and third chapters of Study on Roof Greening Technology in North China. The author enumerated some examples in the text and analyzed and explained them with the help of communicative translation theory and previous translation experience. Finally, the author summarized six specific translation strategies:translating into passive sentences, adopting "It" as the formal subject, translating into the"There be" sentence pattern, transforming the non-subject elements into subjects, adding appropriate subjects and translating into imperative sentences. This report summarizes the English translation skills of non-subject sentences in scientific and technological texts, and provides a reference for the future translation practice and research.
