Study About Rational Spirit In Liu Cixin’s Science Fiction

Liu Cixin,a writer at the core of contemporary Chinese science fiction writers,has created a series of popular science fiction works by readers at China and other country.With his creative achievements,he has won many awards for science fiction literature,and attracted the attention of media and critics all over the world.Though described the mysterious space-time,great civilization and advanced science and technology,Liu Cixin constructed a fantasy universe which is both imaginative and logical.After inheriting the ideological tradition of science fiction literature and having some postmodernist cultural concepts,in the era of rapid progress in science and technology,he wrote a magnificent epic of the universe.From the perspective of research,the academic activities of Liu Cixin have been gradually warming up in the past ten years.Many researchers have carefully analyzed his works from the perspectives of creative concept,narrative structure and language style,and some valuable conclusions were drawn.However,the research focusing solely on the rational spirit in his novels is still in the blank stage.Starting from Liu Cixin’s novel texts,this paper combines the relevant theories of post-modernism and enters into it from the angle of rational spirit.This paper proposed that after Liu Cixin deconstructed the modern value of human society in the process of constructing the fantasy universe in the post-modern cultural system.Relying on rational spirit,he reconstruct the traditional value proposition in the illusory world.The main body of the paper is divided into five parts.The first part of the introduction combs out the relevance and difference between postmodernism and contemporary science fiction literature creation at the conceptual level.And it also briefly expounds the difference between the rational spirit of science fiction literature and the irrational tendency of postmodernism.The first part also pointed out that the creative activities of contemporary science fiction writers such as Liu Cixin are inevitably influenced by post-modern culture,but they still retain the spiritual characteristics of advocating rationality.The first chapter of the paper starts with the discussion of the creative concept of science fiction literature,and analyses the narrative of science fiction in the perspective of post-modern culture.Through the analysis of Liu Cixin’s rational spirit in the text,the rational spirit in his works can be summarized as cognitive,instrumental,moral and practical rationality,and the value orientations of truth and goodness are given respectively.Chapters 2 and 3 of the paper are based on Chapter 1,Starting from the concrete texts of Three Body,Ground Fire,Cloud of Poetry,Devil’s Building Block,makes an empirical study of Liu Cixin’s rational spirit in science and technology belief,civilized survival,moral evolution and ethical alienation.Liu Cixin combines the transcendental desire of modern people in the form of scientific fantasy,he has accomplished the expulsion of the mysterious literary creation concept caused by the primitive human psychological tendency in the fantasy world.According to the construction paradigm of the world of science and technology,Liu Cixin explored the possibility of constructing a new metaphysics of science and technology and morality in the world of science fiction,which is based on the pursuit of truth and goodness,rational spiritual planning and fictional writing.We think that Liu Cixin completed the literary reconstruction of the future scientific and technological utopia with his creative achievements.Chapter 4 is based on the above analysis.It points out that behind the direction of truth and goodness in Liu Cixin’s novels,there is also a dimension of rational aesthetics in science fiction.From the point of view of rationalism aesthetics,this paper demonstrates this point of view.At the same time,we think that Liu Cixin’s science fiction works which highlight the rational spirit can exert a certain influence on the transformation of contemporary popular literature creation from the current one-dimensional imbalance of rationality and irrationality to the possible multi-dimensional equilibrium of rationality and irrationality in the future.This influence will eventually spread to the remodeling of popular literary appreciation standards through transformation.Finally,part four of the paper also judges the regularity and purposefulness of Liu Cixin’s sci-fi dream created by rational spirit,which transcend human desire.
