Through the study of "vivid portrayal" in meticulous figure painting,this paper has some reflections on its own creation.Spiritual transmission is the essence of figure painting.Through the description of external form,the spiritual outlook of the characters is highlighted,thus reflecting the author’s inner spiritual world.The first chapter of the thesis mainly elaborates the traditional figure painting’s appeal for "vivid portrayal".Firstly,the first section discusses the concept and origin of "vivid portrayal".Gu Kaizhi first put forward "vivid portrayal" in aesthetics during Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties.His paintings pay particular attention to the description of the eyes,believing that the key to vivid characters lies in the eyes.Through the delicate treatment of the eyes and the dynamic description of the characters,the inner spiritual temperament of the characters is highlighted.Section II discusses the traditional meticulous figure painting is "to describe the spirit in form",and then through the "imagination wonderful" process to achieve "vivid portrayal".The second chapter discusses the image presentation of "vivid portrait" in meticulous figure painting.The first section mainly takes Zhang Xuan’s and Zhou Fang’s paintings as examples to discuss the characteristics of vivid characters at that time.The second section takes the works of He Jiaying and Li Fax as examples,as well as the vivid features of meticulous figure painting represented by him.The third chapter is to elaborate on the expression of spirit in my creation.Through the study of the lifelike characteristics of the figure paintings of the past dynasties,and then for their own creative inspiration.There are different aesthetic tendencies in different times,and different works have different characteristics of vividness.If there is no "god" as a support,figure painting is like a blank skin bag without flesh and blood.Whether the shape is "beautiful bone and clear image",or rich and fat and beautiful,it should be the shape of the image with authenticity,vividness,and artist’s feelings,in order to give people a "face-to-face" of "both form and spirit".
