Interpreting Strategies In Multilingual Environments-On Code-mixing Phenomenon And Relay Interpreting

With the acceleration of globalization,people inevitably have to learn a language or a dialect other than their mother tongue.It is also inevitable for interpreters to deal with multilingual content in modern society.As different cultures and languages interweave with each other,their work becomes more and more complex and challenging.The study of multilingual interpretation is very necessary and important.However,there is little research on multilingual interpretation.This paper attempts to solve the specific problems and difficulties encountered by interpreters in multilingual interpreting by analyzing the contents of different languages.This paper begins with the significance of this study,points out the existence of multilingual environment and its problems in translation activities,namely code-mixing and relay interpreting,and then reviews the previous translation studies in multilingual environment.This research will be conducted within the framework of skopos theory and combined with Stenzl’s communicative information flow model.This paper argues that in order to solve the interpreting difficulties caused by code-mixing,the role of mixed codes in the original text should be analyzed first,and then the corresponding strategies should be selected to decide whether to retain the mixed codes in the target text.If the target language is used for direct translation,it can be judged by literal translation or sense translation due to the mixed effects of codes.In addition,due to the high possibility of information loss in relay interpretation,interpreters must take appropriate measures to avoid information omission and deviation;However,in case of inevitable errors in the process of information transmission,interpreters can also try their best to fill in the missing information or correct the deviation.The choice of strategy and practical application will be discussed in combination with the actual situationThe purpose of this paper is to identify and classify interpreting problems from existing contents,so as to find applicable strategies and suitable solutions for multilingual interpreting in the future.
