Against the background of the deepening globalization, many excellent economic books have been introduced into China.Welfare economics is a crucial part of the economy, but books on welfare economics have not been sufficiently introduced into China, and the translation of some of the books introduced into China still needs improving. The translation project in which the writer of this thesis participated aimed at providing the target readers with a translation faithful to the source text of The Economics of Welfare, conforming to the way of the target language in writing, and in line with their reading habits. Its purpose is to be conducive to their objective understanding of the theories in economic welfare abroad. The fifth part, the Distribution of the National Dividend in The Economics of Welfare is selected as a source text. The purpose of this book is to introduce the relevant researches on welfare economics and the author's classic theories to the target readers. Therefore, three rules of the skopos theory, namely skopos rule, coherence rule and faithfulness rule, are applicable to the whole process of economic translation practice. The complex structure of long sentences, the extensive use of parenthesis, nouns and passive voice have posed great challenges to translators. Therefore, the translation of English long sentences is the focus of this report.Based on the syntactic differences between English and Chinese, the writer of this thesis uses the splitting-up skill to clarify the subject-subordinate relationship of long sentences. As for the extensive use of parenthesis, she adopts word order adjustment to change the position of the insertion. In view of the frequent occurrence of nouns and passive voice, she adopts the skills like conversion in part of speech and conversion of voice. Finally, through the translation examples,it is found that conversion method and splitting-up method reasonably transform the syntactic structure of English and Chinese and further verify the validity and rationality of the translation skills adopted.Through this translation practice, the writer of this thesis has achieved a deeper understanding of the overall translation process and the syntactic features of both English and Chinese,so as to analyze the translation of English long sentences from a broader perspective. She summarizes some feasible skills for long sentences translation in hope to provide the readers with some references for the translation of the similar texts.
