Culture-loaded words are phrases and idioms that mark something unique in culture, most often found in literary works with ethnic characteristics. As one of the best Chinese classics,The Analects of Confucius has a natural endowment of culture-loaded words.Among them, the most representative core culture-loaded words such as“?”,“?”,“?”,“?”,“??”and“??”all highlight the most essential contents of Confucianism and are worth exploring.Because of the huge differences in social backgrounds, customs and cultures between China and the West, the core culture-loaded words in The Analects of Confucius are distinct and directly reflect the unique characteristics of Chinese culture. When translating these culture-loaded words,it is difficult for the translator to find completely equivalent expressions. Therefore, how to translate Chinese classic works properly to promote cultural exchanges has become one of the most urgent problems that China's translation community needs to solve. This essay combines statistics and contrastive methods, taking Susan Bassnett's cultural translation theory as a guidance, viewing James Legge and Lin Yutang's versions f The Analects of Confucius as research objects. The two versions's core culture-loaded words are compared to explain how cultural factors affect their translation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the translation strategies and effects of culture-loaded words from the perspective of culture translation theory through quantitative and qualitative research methods, and try to classify and summarize the influential factors at the cultural level, they are:moral standards, religious ceremony, traditional customs and social status,so as to facilitate foreign readers to understand Chinese traditional culture in depth and promote cultural exchanges.
