The conflict talk,also known as the controversial discourse,is a common linguistic phenomenon in real interpersonal communication,which is manifested in the controversial dialogue activities in the process of verbal communication.The conflict talk is one of the important topics in the discourse analysis research.Based on the speech act theory,this thesis uses the TV series Day and Night as the source of the corpus,and uses the combinative research methods of description,theoretical interpretation,inductive analysis,quantitative and qualitative analysis to comprehensively describe and analyze the development process of the conflict talk and the manifestation of specific speech acts in different stages in the the Chinese TV series Day and Night.Then,from the perspective of the adaptation-relevance model,combining with the relevant theory of the impoliteness strategies,this thesis will make a pragmatic study and analysis on the conflict talk between the main characters in this TV series.At the same time,this paper will discuss the factors that lead to the emergence of conflictive discourses in the TV series,the discourse strategies that lead to the occurrence ofcommunicative conflicts or the escalation of communicative conflict and their pragmatic effects.This thesis will try to present the specific characteristics of the conflict talk in detail and summarize its main pragmatic functions as well.This thesis is divided into five chapters: The first chapter is the introduction part,which mainly includes the background of the topic selection,the concept and main characteristics of the research object,the literature review of the domestic and foreign research on the conflict discourse,the theoretical basis of the research,the research purpose and the research significance of this thesis,the main research methods and the source of the corpus.The second chapter is based on the speech act theory and combined with the example of the conflict discourse in this TV series,classifies and sorts out the specific implementation forms of the conflict discourse in the three stages and then refers to the charts to conduct and analyze the related data according to the TV series.The third chapter is based on the main viewpoints of the adaptation-relevance model,summarizes and discusses the relevant factors that will influence the process of generating and understanding the conflict discourse in the TV series.The fourth chapter is based on the theory of impoliteness strategies,summarizes and discusses the pragmatic strategies and related pragmatic functions that easily leading to communicative conflicts and impolite responses.Among them,this thesis focuses on the initiationstrategy of the offensive conflict discourse and the mitigation strategy of resolving the communicative conflict.In addition,the positive pragmatic functions of the conflict discourse are also summarized in this part.The fifth chapter is the conclusion part.In this part,the author summarizes and expounds the main viewpoints of this thesis,the inadequacies of the research and the prospects for the future research.The research results of this thesis can theoretically verify the feasibility of the speech act theory in analyzing the conflict discourse and the effectiveness of the theory of adaption-relevance model in interpreting the conflict discourse.In practice,it can guide people to effectively avoid,alleviate and even eliminate the negative impact of the conflict talk in practical social communication,and provide references and suggestions to reduce the conflict talk for the harmonious interpersonal communication.Thus,it provides concrete and feasible methods and experience for people to improve their ability of resolving conflicts,mediate social interpersonal relationships and maintain the harmony and stability of the society.
