Confinement in childbirth is a special link in traditional birth custom,affiliated to the fertility culture part of the folk educational world does not make a clear definition to its,which lead to difficult to clarify the development of the custom.In this paper,starting from the features of confinement in childbirth,on the basis of the analysis of historical materials and the field data,defined the concept of confinement in childbirth.Confinement in childbirth refers to a series of ritual behaviors,including experienced female help mothers recover,back to normal society,and protect the growth of newborns.The specific content and form of the confinement in childbirth have been changing,but the participators and Internal cultural logic it has always been constant.In the process of development and evolution,the transitional phase will always exist,and the uncertainty of the transitional period will not disappear.the article uses Arnold van Gennep’s theory,"les rites de passage",as the basis.And it uses the theoretical model of "separation-edge-aggregation" to explain the behaviors and requirements of puerpera and infant during "the month".The author discusses the transition-property of the confinemet in the process of comparing the forms of the custom in different periods.As a cultural phenomenon,the custom of confinement in childbirth has the characteristic of"change and invariance".These changes are mostly caused by changes in the times,regions and environment.During the evolution of the confinement in childbirth,the content and form have changed and innovated.Up to now,we have a complete and mature behavioral model,which is recognized by members of society and consciously abides by fulfillment.With the development of society and the advancement of medical standards,the content of the confinement inchildbirth will be cut again.Only by adapting to modern society,can this custom continue to pass on.Therefore,the "transformation" of the confinement in childbirth is the acceptance and internalization of the society.It is the cultural adaptation strategy made by people under the background living in certain social culture.The disadvantages of the old customs will gradually disappear,and eventually re-integrated into the new"confinement in childbirth model".At the moment of the transition of the custom,the continuation and significance of the confinement in childbirth can be studied and analyzed from many aspects,such as family,society,medical economy and so on.
