Listening,one of the important forms of language skills,has an impact on the skills of speaking,reading,writing and viewing in some degree.The English listening teaching plays a very important role in the contemporary foreign language teaching,but it is also one of the difficult parts in teaching and there are many problems.The regular English listening teaching lacks of strategic training for students' listening learning and can't improve students' listening ability effectively.Therefore,as a new teaching method,Scaffolding Instruction receives extensive attention from educators.In order to explore the influences of scaffolding instruction on English listening learning of junior high school students,this study uses the constructivism,zone of proximal development and autonomous learning theory to design and implement scaffolding English listening teaching experiments,trying to solve the following two main problems:1)What is the effect of scaffolding instruction on the junior high school students' autonomous learning ability of English listening?2)What is the effect of scaffolding instruction on the junior high school students' English listening achievements?Two natural classes in grade 8 of a junior high school in Yueyang were selected,and 16 week scaffolding listening teaching experiments were conducted.Relevant data were collected through experimental tools such as English listening tests,questionnaires,interview,etc.The two research questions above are discussed through a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods.The results of research show that scaffolding instruction can effectively cultivate students' good listening habits and improve their autonomous learning ability of English listening.At the same time,in the process of scaffolding listening teaching,students' enthusiasm for English listening learning has been continuously enhanced,and English listening achievements have also been improved.Therefore,scaffolding instruction can bring positive effects to English listening learning of junior high school students,and can provide useful reference for junior middle school English listening teaching.
