The process of teaching is mainly carried out in a series of “teacher stimulate-student response-teacher feedback”.In the process of teacher-student communication,the teacher's response to the student's answers is called teacher feedback,which consists of both the verbal and nonverbal response.The effective teacher feedback can not only improve the communication between teachers and students,but also lead students to think deeply about teachers' questions.With the increasing significance of teacher feedback in the research of classroom discourse,the use of t eacher feedback in senior high school English class and the effects of different teacher feedback have become a research direction which cannot be ignored.This study aims to answ er the f ollowing questions:(1)What is the current situation of t eacher feedback in senior high school English classes?(2)What are the major types of teacher feedback strategies in senior high school English classes?(3)What are the ef fects of teacher feedback on t he classroom teaching in senior high school English classes? This research takes Kaifeng Senior High School as a case study and focuses on the investi gation of teacher feedback in English classroom teaching of senior high school English.It observes and records the teaching of four English teachers from Kaifeng Senior High School and distributes the questionnaires to 116 students in two classes of Kaifeng Senior High School.This study also adopts interviews with four teachers.This th esis is targeted to obtain and analyze t he research data,and to make a detailed discussion in terms of the character istics of the different types of teacher feedback in senior high school English teaching,the preferences of teacher feedback from both teacher and student,and the effects on classroom processes.Through adopting the classroom observation,the questionnaires,and the interviews as the major research methods,this study has got the following major findings:(1)Too many single words and phrases appear in the senior high school English teacher feedback,which are too simple.Senior high school English teachers tend to ignore the using of feedback strategies,and the concept of teacher feedback is not fully understood by some senior high school teachers.Compared with negative feedback,teachers prefer to use positive feedback.(2)In the se nior high school English class,there are usually five kinds of positive teacher feedback,which are: affirmation,repeated answers,self-correction,comments,and transfer of the subject.There are four types of negative feedback,which are: direct error correction,implied or indirect error c orrection,induced correction,and repeated correction.(3)The major effects of teacher feedback on senior high school English teaching include the following aspects.Firstly,the appropriate teacher feedback can clearly convey the teacher's judgment on the response of the student's answers,and secondly it is a medium to promote students' language input and increase the possibility of learners' effective learning.Through the investigation of the influence of teacher feedback in senior high school English classes,the thesis puts forward the following suggestions for high school English teacher feedback:(1)Teachers should pay attention to the positive feedback such as the affirmative words and reduce the use of negative feedback.(2)Teachers should utilize the teacher feedback which is base d on the c haracteristics and personality of students.(3)Teachers should try to design the teaching by carefully studying the relevant theories of language teaching in order to continue their teaching reflection.
