The Spiritual Home Of Afro-Amexicans-Study Of Religious Beliefs Of African American Under American Slavery

The history of black people runs through the process of American history.The black community is the most populous of the many ethnic groups,and a more special and important one.Blacks have long been oppressed and discriminated in the course of American history,but they have not always been willing to endure these unfair treatments.Even under the persecution of slave owners,black people would seek comfort in other ways-that is,religion.Black people had their own beliefs before they came to North America,collectively known as traditional African religions.Black slaves who came to the New World did not abandon their native religious beliefs.So when white people came into contact with black people,these two different types of religious beliefs inevitably collide and clash.In the process of striving for survival,black culture constantly develops and evolves,which is particularly obvious in religious belief.Black people do not completely abandon the traditional African religious beliefs,but combine traditional religious culture with white Christian culture in their own way,and create their own spiritual kingdom.Starting from the historical background of black religious beliefs under slavery and combining with traditional African religious belief,this thesis explores the changing process of the religious beliefs of black slaves,and concludes that black slaves did not passively accept white Christian culture,but gradually transformed and combined Christianity with traditional religion to form the black Christianity with its own characteristics.
