This is an Enslish-Chinese translation report on the original selected from Women's Work,with the full title of Women's Work-An Anthology of African-American Women's Historical Writings from Antebellum America to the Harlem Renaissance,is published by Oxford University Press,USA in 2010.It's edited by Laurie F.Maffly-kipp and Kathryn Lofton who have chosen 19 noted African-American women authors to give introduction of their life and representative works.This book is varied in genres of writing works,including fiction,poetry,plays,speeches and so on.While,all of those works have the feature of African-American culture,religion and literary.We can see African-American women's inner world and focuses from Antebellum America to the Harlem Renaissance through those works.What's more,we can know their contributions to fight against slavery or strive for the rights of African-American women.This translation report is under the guidance of Professor Huang Zhonglian's Complete Translation Methodology to analyze the translation practice.The author chooses the introduction and the first three chapters of the book to carry out English-Chinese translation practice.With the guidance of Complete Translation Methodology,the author gets new thinking about translation.The greatest difficulty encountered in this paper is the translation of poetry.Although the structure of poetry is concise,it's expressions are changeable,which brings great difficulties to the author's understanding.At the same time,a large number of proper nouns related to religion and culture,which also give obstacles to the author.What's more,the author needs to synthesize the characteristics of poetry and translate in a poetic way.Therefore,in order to get a readable translation the author needs to adopt complete translation methods such as transliteration,addition,omission,transference,substitution,division and combination to translate the text.
