Xiaorong is the third poem of Qin Feng.In the judgment of time,it should be a poem of Qin state in the early stage.Chen Qiyuan said in the Book of Ancient Mao's Poems that Xiao Rong is the foundation of the prosperity of Qin Dynasty. The content of Xiao Rong has always been noticed and controversial because it involves the ancient gharry system and the strong customs of the Qin Dynasty. On the basis of the literature between the research China,Japan and Korea about the Book of songs, this paper attempts to analyze and summarize the history of the research of Xiao Rong, examine the evolution of various viewpoints, examine and distinguish of the poem's tenor, the original meaning of the poem, the words and the gharry system, and seek the value of many poem's purports and exegeses. The scholars' understanding about Xiao Rong's purport can be divided into three kinds:the theory of praise and satire, the theory of woman missing her husband, and the theory of pride and patriotism.Because of the different historical positions of the Qin State against Xi Rong, scholars of all dynasties had different understandings of the tenor of the poem Xiao Rong. The Preface to Mao's Poems said that Xiao Rong,is in order to praise Xiang Gong.Xiao Rong is regarded as a poem of praise for Xiang Gong against Xi Rong. Many scholars believe that it is in order to praise for Zhuang Gong or Shi Fu in the fight against Xi Rong. The "attack preface" of the Song Dynasty had been prevailing,Zhu Xi believes that the times of the poem is uncertain, and if only based on the poetry itself's meaning, this poem'purport should be the woman yearning for her husband, but the woman does not resent the war, that is "a woman worry his gentleman and no resentment." In the Yuan and Ming dynasties,Zhu Xi's views was the mainstream, and many scholars supported it.But there is also opposition to Zhu Xi's view that the women in the poem have a feeling of sadness. As to whether there is resentment or not,the argument of the poet focuses on the justice of the war and the martial customof the Qin Dynasty. Therefore,it is the key to determine the purport and connotation of Xiao Rong to investigate the historical background and social customs of the Qin state.Through combing and textual research on the relevant documents such as Historical Records,Zuo Zhuan,Ancient and Modern Bamboo Annals, and so on,it is found that this poem can be proved to be a lack of material for praising a certain Qin state's lord to fight against Xi Rong. Therefore,it can be found to prove that the poem is short of materials for the theory of praise and satire. So,it is more accordant to define the purport as the theory of woman missing her husband.Combined with documents and cultural relic,it can be proved that the annotations of this song noted by Mao Heng and Zheng Xuan are basically credible.Because the interpretation of Mao Heng is condensed, this paper gives an extended explanation of the specific details.Xiao Rong embodies the intrepid custom of the Qin Dynasty, and forms a unique style in its literary works. In the Book of songs, there are a large number of poems about woman missing her husband, most of them in the mood of enmity. In addition to the sentimental style,Xiao Rong has a kind of courage and strength, which is not only unique in the Book of songs, but also has a bold and unconstrained style. It has a tremendous similarity with the poems of Frontier fortress poetry in the Tang Dynasty.
