| The Yangzhou Painting School represented by the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou in the Qing Dynasty and the formation of French Rococo Art in the same period, apart from the artist’s inner artistic view, the merchant class represented by Yangzhou salt merchants and the court nobility represented by Madame de Pompadour played an important role in the formation of these two styles.Faced with their huge demand for works, artists actively participated in the creation and trading of works of art.Owing to the rich economy of salt merchants and their commitment to sponsoring art activities, artists from all over Yangzhou gathered, thus forming a scene of literati painters gathering. In order to improve their status and realize their spiritual pursuit, salt merchants represented by Ma Yueguan and Ma Yuelu conducted art transactions with artists of Yangzhou Painting School by inviting literati to stay at home, ordering works and holding elegant parties. In order to cater to the market, artists such as Zheng Banqiao set up “Runge” to mark their works clearly, creating a new situation in the art market. However, the demand for a large number of works by salt merchants and other people has led to the appearance of “substitute pen” and “fake work” in the painting market, which has affected the normal operation of the art market. The Rococo style was formed in Paris,France,in the same period in the 18 th century.Francois Boucher was a master of the rococo style. His chief patron of the arts in life was Madame de Pompadour. As a representative of female art patrons,Madame de Pompadour promoted the development of Rococo art with her unique talent. However, due to the high concentration of French “cultural policy”,the French painting style is in the hands of the rulers. It was not until the reform of Sharon and the appearance of the French Revolution that French art patronage and aesthetic appreciation became “public”. |
