The increasing demand for the disk capacity is responsible for the emergence of new storage technologies.As one of most promising technologies,the heat assisted magnetic recording has been the research focus at home and abroad recently.The paper “Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording” comprehensively discusses the development status of this technology and challenges associated.Translating this article will help to learn the HAMR,thus providing references for the research on this technology.This translation practice report discusses the Chinese translation of the paper“Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording”.It starts with the introduction of the source text,the background and significance of the translation as well as the preparation and analysis before translation.Then this report uses the Catford's translation theory to analyze English-to-Chinese scientific and technological translation from two micro levels of word and sentence,including the translation of terminology,adjectives into verbs,passive voice sentences into active sentences,phrases into clauses and combination of single sentences.Finally,this reports summarizes the problems and limitations during the translation.This practice report aims to reach translation criteria of accuracy,standardization,conciseness and clarity under the guideline of the Catford's Translation Shift theory so as to provide reference for the translation of similar articles in the future.
