The Female Image In Oscar Awards From 1929 To 2019

The Academy Awards is a world-renowned film award.The award of a film means the highest recognition in the film industry.Although the Oscar-winning films come from different countries and the themes are diverse,the cultural meaning and meaning conveyed by the female images in the film are particularly important,representing the status and situation of women in the social background of the era in which the film is located.Therefore,this thesis attempts to take Oscar movies as a sample and take the female character image as the research object to explore the representation of female images in 90 years.This paper uses text analysis,case study,comparative analysis and other research methods,combined with feminist theory and the three stages of the development of feminist movement,to review,organize and analyze the female film themes that won the Academy Awards during the 90 years.The author starts with the background of the film and the situation of the female characters and the characteristics of the characters,analyzes the female status in the movie theme,and tries to summarize the female expression in the movie by combining the theories of "visual pleasure","male gaze" and "the femme fatale".The study found that during the 1960 s,the female image showed a state of obedience to male power in the image,and women did not get rid of the status of "gaze" and "aphasia" on the screen.The female images of the 1970 s had the characteristics of pursuing freedom and autonomy,but some female characters were placed in negative,passive and weak contexts such as "the femme fatale".After 1985,the feminist avant-garde film began to rise,and the female image in the film was more positive.The self-sustaining positive female image appeared on the screen.After the new century,the diversity of women is accepted by the society.Even if the multivariate women on the screen suffer from certain oppression,they are in a proactive position in most cases.
