Reduplicated words are words produced by homographic repetition or overlapping. They are common linguistic phenomena in both Chinese and Yi languages.Chinese reduplication has attracted much attention of Chinese scholars, and the research results are fruitful. However, the study of Chinese reduplicated words and Yi reduplicated words is neither mature nor systematic.Based on previous research results, this paper mainly makes a comparative study of the word-formation,phonetics,semantics and grammatical meaning of overlapping words in Chinese and Yi languages.Overlapping words can be divided into generalized overlapping words and narrow overlapping words. In this paper,we discuss the generalized overlapping words, including syllabic overlapping words(reduplicated words),morpheme overlapping words and lexical overlapping words.ABAB in Chinese is a hyper word,so it is not within the scope of study, but the same ABAB is a word in Yi language,so we should discuss it.Typical reduplicated words generally have the following characteristics: there are sound, morpheme, syllable(pronunciation),meaning and so on between roots and reduplicated words;they produce multiple meanings on the original basis;after reduplication, they are a word. Both Chinese and Yi have an idiom morpheme or an idiom morpheme that overlaps and becomes a word with rhythmic beauty or special meaning. The research object of this paper is the comparison of syllabic overlapping words and morpheme overlapping words(including homographic repetition, homographic overlapping and homophonic overlapping words),word-formation methods, phonetic and grammatical meanings of lexical overlapping words in Chinese and Yi languages. The phonetic, grammatical, grammatical and pragmatic features of overlapping words in the two languages are similar and different. The main content of this paper will be divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction. The second part is mainly about the analysis and description of the word-formation methods of AA,ABB,AABB and ABAB in Chinese and Yi respectively. The third part will analyze and describe the phonetic characteristics of AA,ABB,AABB and ABCC reduplications in Chinese and Yi respectively, and compare them. The fourth part will analyze and describe the grammatical meanings of AA,ABB,AABB and ABAB reduplications in Chinese and Yi,and compare them. The fifth part will compare and summarize all kinds of reduplicated words in Chinese and Yi language from four aspects: word formation, part of speech, phonetic characteristics and grammatical meaning.
