Energy is an indispensable catalyst in every country's economy, which concerns all the citizens. However, the energy sector is also a major source of air pollution and the fourth largest human health risk in the world. Therefore, energy is essential to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The source material was seletcted from the website of International Energy Agency, entitled Perspectives for the Energy Transition: The Role of Energy Efficiency, which introduces the background knowledge to 2050 concerning energy efficiency in the clean energy transition and strategic approaches to energy efficiency. As the scientific and technical text, the source material is formal and objective,of which the main intention is to deliver information to target readers. In the process of translation, some adjustments should be made to words, phrases and sentences from the source language to the target language to make it readable and consistent to the original text. Therefore, the author adopted the theory of Translation Shifts, which could properly sovle the problem regarding formal correspondence between English and Chinese.During the process of translation, two obstacles lay in the way which were terminologies and long and complex sentences. To solve the first problem, the author referred to enormous related materials and consulted to professionals. The author solved the second problem by analysing the grammar and using Translation Shifts theory.Through level shifts and category shifts, the source text was correctly and effectively translated into target text.It is hoped that some reference could be provided to the translation practices in the energy field in the future.
