Doris Lessing is the winner of the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature and is known as the greatest British female writer after Virginia Woolf. Her works, with wide and diverse themes and profound connotations, express her deep concerns about social and political issues such as women, colonization, race, the Cold War and hegemony,etc..The publication of the space fiction series Canopus in Argos: Archives marks Lessing's successful transition from traditional realist novels to science fiction creation. And The Marriages between Zones Three,Four and Five is the second volume of this series and mainly tells that two representative individuals, with different cultures, ideologies and ways of thinking, are forced to marry by the Order of the almighty Providers. Most researches on The Marriages between Zones Three,Four and Five explore ideas such as feminism,Sufi mysticism, and some of them analyze Lessing's superb narrative skills.Based on Jan Alber and Brian Richardson's unnatural narrative theory in post-classical narratology, this paper analyzes the unnatural narrative elements and their defarmiliarized effects in both story layer and discourse layer of the novel: “impossible storyworld” and “unnatural acts of narration”.In the “impossible storyworld”,impossible scenarios and impossible characters are pointed out and analyzed to prove the unnaturalness of the story world. And the author's intention behind these unnatural factors is unveiled---the world is an interconnected Overall;in the “unnatural acts of narration”,the unnaturalness of the discourse world is realized through “we” narration and multiple narration. It also explores the omniscient narrator's,the “we” narrator's and the “I” narrator's respective journey of discovery, revealing Lessing's foresightedness about human future and global development: all countries and cultures in the world are an interrelated and interactional “community of common destiny”,and the advance of the human civilization requires that people from all countries and regions adopt an openminded and inclusive attitude, communicate with and learn from other cultures and together promote the overall progress of the world.
