Interpreting Quality Assessment And Effect Measurement On The Foundation Of Information Comprehension

Quality assessment of interpreting outcome is mainly divided into quality assessment and effect measurement.However,these two research methods are relatively independent.Each has its own system,advantages and disadvantages.There aren't many researches which combined the two.This paper hopes to establish a common foundation on which the similarity of the two types of assessment methods can be studied.And this foundation is the information comprehension of audience.By comparing the comprehension of source language audience and target language audience,a mutual reference can be created between quality assessment which focuses on internal quality and effect measurement which focuses on external performance.They can be studied on common ground rather than simply put together with a certain ratio.With that in mind,this paper proposes a hypothesis: if interpreted information is of a high conversion rate and clear in logic,the effect of interpreting can be reflected in the audience's comprehension of said interpreting product.Three Sino-US related questions had been chosen from the 2017&2018 Premier Li's press conferences as research materials.They are first quantified via Cai Xiaohong's information unit construction theory to generate objective quality assessment data.Then a questionnaire is made and conducted via listening comprehension to compare the degrees of understanding between audiences speaking different native tongues.In this way,source language comprehension and target language comprehension can be compared to see if there is a similarity.There is also a part of the questionnaire designed to obtain effect measurement results,by putting in popular interpreting parameters found in previous studies.Last,the two results were compared to prove the hypothesis and the fact that quality assessment and effect measurement can be of mutual reference on the foundation of information comprehension.Therefore,an organic combination of the two types of assessment is achieved.Reasonable use of comprehension tests can help to improve objectiveness in interpreting quality assessment and it can also help training interpreters to improve their ability in processing information and interpreting.
