John Maxwell Coetzee is undoubtedly the excellent novelist.The broadness and sense of vigour in his works have made us convinced since the relevant content not just shows the issues about colonialism and race,but also contains the the reflection on various realistic and philosophical problems,such as power,gender,the basic instincts of human beings,imperialism,as well as the realism and uncertainty in novels.Moreover,it also explores the in-depth problems faced by the human beings.When it comes the overall literary creation of Coetzee,“sex” is the key for us to enter the world of his novels.The description of sexuality for people of different races and skin colors is the special choice of him to review the colonial violence in South Africa,explore the identity of white colonial descendants and question the living situation of modern people.In this regard,the paper tries to elaborate the cultural implications and connotations in the novel by systematically sorting out the types of description of sexuality in Coetzee's novels.On such basis,it is easy for the readers to further understand how the paper criticizes the abnormal apartheid system which brings huge spiritual injuries and interpersonal communication dilemma by relying on description of sexuality.The paper is mainly divided into three parts which are respectively introduction,main body which includes three chapters and conclusion.Interms of the introduction,it mainly carries out overview for the creation situation of Coetzee,as well as the studies in the relevant fields at home and abroad with the transformation of description of sexuality in Coetzee's novels being analyzed and clarified finally.The first chapter mainly elaborates the background of Coetzee's sexual writing in the context of social history.Coetzee's novels choose to observe the racial problems in South Africa and the real situation of human mind from the perspective of “sex”,which has an important relationship with his sexual love experience in his youth,his age and his literary edification.The second chapter mainly sorts out and expounds the types of types of description of sexuality in Coetzee's works after detailed analysis of the content.Most of his novels are connected with description of sexuality and the paper selects the seven major novels of him and divide them into three categories according to the differences of manifestation forms which are respectively: rape or seduction originating from violence,temporary sexual relationship based on willingness and transactions and the sexual fantasies without any actions.The third chapter mainly analyzes the cultural connotations of description of sexuality in Coetzee's novels.The description of sexuality in Coetzee's novels is intertwined with racial relations,colour civilization and power fluctuation in the historical process of South Africa,which highlights the more complicated and far-reaching cultural connotations.He attempts to ease the relationsbetween masters and servants and eliminate the conflicts between white and black men by sex.Moreover,he also focuses on body implications,which reflects his exploration for new historical ethical norms during post-apartheid era in South Africa.His description on the old men shows his humanitarianism care and deep thinking of the spiritual status of people wandering in desires and ethics.The conclusion is about the conformation for the values and significance of description of sexuality in Coetzee's novels.The paper deeply explores the description of sexuality in Coetzee's novels by combining with the relevant theories in the post-colonialism period and gradually deepening the analysis proces.
