Alice Walker is a well-known African American female writer in contemporary American literary field.Her works has been translated into more than 20 languages and sold well in different countries,but the translation in China is extremely limited.Therefore,its research value is mostly neglected in China.Alice walker,as an African-American female writer,has the status of American citizen,and her body is filled with blood from the African continent,and she lives in the gap between two cultures,with two souls and two ways of thinking,but it is difficult to make a real choice between them.This split cultural identity and difficult living conditions have created her unique life experience.As a result,Walker pays great attention to the contradiction and anxiety of Afro-Americans difficult choice between their native African and American cultural identities,as well as the different survival predicaments of Afro-Americans in their native colonies and American society.Walker hopes that by inheriting the excellent traditional culture of African countries,and incorporating their survival wisdom in the United States for many years,to reconstruct the new national culture,to rebuild the Afro-Americans' spiritual homeland,to find their national cultural identity,dignity and value.What is worthy of recognition is that Walker,unlike writers like Alex Harry,does not blindly promote African traditional culture,but critically reflects on it.This paper is based on Alice Walker's two novels Color Purple,Possessing the Secret of Joy and two short stories Everyday Use" and The Revenge of Hannah Kemhuff as the research object,In-depth analysis of Walker's novels explores the cultural identity of African-Americans,seeks the anxiety and contradiction of social identity,and the difficult situation living in the colonies of the native country and the American society.Firstly,the part one introduces the research and summarizes the research background of the paper and the research status at home and abroad,as well as the research ideas of this paper.The second part(Chapter one)analyzes the loss of the characters' self-identity in the works,the anxiety of identity caused by the multiple and uncertain identities, and the contradiction and pain of choosing between the American and African cultural identities.The third part(Chapter two)analyzes the various dilemmas in the construction of cultural identity in the colonies and the West,namely the survival dilemma and cultural dilemma.The fourth part(chapter three)focuses on walker's reconstruction spiritual world of the African people.Walker is rooted in the African traditional culture,from the three aspects of religion,art,language as the breakthrough point,combines African-American in the United States for many years survival wisdom,construct a new national culture,to subvert the white mainstream values,highlight the "black humanity",help African-American to reconstruct their own cultural identity,reconstruction of independent spirit home,this is also walker's life experience and expectation in American society.
