The cultural exchange between China and other countries provides an opportunity for foreign children's literary works to flood into China.Although the number of translated works is huge, the quality is in different level.Meanwhile, children's literature translation has been paid little attention, hence it is in a tough situation.Contrastive analysis and descriptive analysis are the major research methods in the thesis.Under the guidance of Verschueren's adaptation theory, this thesis selects Ren Rongrong's and Ma Ainong's Chinese versions of Peter Pan as the research objects, and analyzes what translation methods the two translators use to translate rhetorical devices and what level of adaptation they achieve in the process of translating rhetorical devices.Through the case study,it is found that the two translators have made appropriate adaptation from the angles of phonetic, lexical, syntactical, mental and cultural in the process of translating rhetorical devices, and both translators have flexibly used a variety of translation methods. Therefore, this thesis summarizes four methods of rhetorical translation:literal translation, free translation, domestication and foreignization with some appropriate annotations. This thesis combines theory with practice to explore the guiding role of adaptation theory in the translation of rhetorical devices. This research makes up for the shortcomings of previous studies to some extent, and brings some enlightenment to the study of children's literature translation.
