In the educational research,it was discovered early in 1950 s that feedback is most effective if given to learners timely, and immediately.Timely feedback can serve as more effective reinforcer, guiding directly students'(especially young learners')learning and ensuring their mastery of key learning outcomes, but teachers can not give timely feedback on students' listening and speaking homework due to technical reasons. With education informatization, these limitations of the paper and pen homework have spawned many web based platforms that are synchronized with the audio of the teaching materials, which can provide timely feedback to students' homework. The moment these platforms appeared, they were used by English teachers in most primary schools. So what are the types of web based homework? How long can students complete their web based English homework? Will students be disturbed when doing web based homework?etc..These issues are worth studying. The present study aims to explore the current status of English web homework in primary school and to examine the levels of effort students exert in web homework assignments. An questionnaire was carried out with a hundred and eighty three students who come from The Primary School Attached to Xi'an Foreign Language School.Ninety six students(fifty one boys and forty five girls)are from grade 2,and eighty seven(forty boys and forty seven girls)students from grade3.Sixteen questionnaire students(4 boys and 4 girls in each sample class)and four teachers of English were interviewed to supplement the results of the questionnaire.Based on an analysis of the results of the questionnaire and interviews, research findings are reached as follows:(1)Three types of web homework are assigned, which is mainly based on dubbing, reading, recording video.Students can finish these types of web homework within 20 minutes and they can learn about the improvement of their intonation from the feedback of web homework;(2)No significant difference in the concentration and completion rate of web homework between the boys and girls in the lower grades of the school can be found;however, there are significant initiative differences between the boys and girls in the early-grades;(3)The web homework concentration, initiative and completion rate of girls are higher than boys';(4)The web homework initiative and completion rate of the students in grade3 is higher than that of the students in grade2.According to the results of the survey, primary school English teachers can focus on reading, dubbing and other types of homework in the future assignment of English web based homework, and cooperate with paper and pen homework to promote the overall development of primary school students' listening, speaking, reading and writing; In addition,English teachers should take into account gender and grade differences in assigning English web based homework to promote different phases of male and female English learning.
