Food documentary usually describes the food culture of a country or a city.In fact,a food documentary will also reflect the history, politics, culture, economy, humanities and other fields of the district. The film can create the image of the district through representative shots and language symbols as well as convey the local culture. From the perspective of multimode, the communicative symbols such as pictures, language and music in such films constitute the whole dynamic discourse. On the other hand, metaphor,as a basic way of human thinking and behavior, has long been focused only on language.Forceville(1996)created the term "multimodal metaphor".He believed that metaphor should not only exist in language, but also in static or dynamic images, music, gestures, tactile, taste, and various combinations of modes.Forceville held that multimodal metaphor is a metaphor represented by two or more modes.Based on Lakoff and Johnson's conceptual metaphor theory and Royce's intersemiotic complementarity theory, this paper will study multimodal metaphors in A Bite of Chongqing, aiming to answer the following three questions:1)What are the main types of multimodal metaphors in A Bite of Chongqing?2)How do the multimodal metaphors in A Bite of Chongqing help achieve meaning co-construction?3)What are the textual intentions of multimodal metaphors in A Bite of Chongqing? The result of the study shows that: 1)In A Bite of Chongqing, the mapping directions are from concrete domain to abstract domain, from abstract domain to concrete domain and from abstract domain to abstract domain.2)The meaning co-construction of the multimodal metaphors is mainly realized by thecomplementarity of three modal symbols: visual image, language, and music.3)The multimodal metaphors convey the textual intentions of promoting food and travel culture, presenting the character of Chongqing people, and creating favorable city images.Based on the analysis of multimodal metaphors in A Bite of Chongqing, this paper explores the meaning co-construction of multimodal metaphors,so as to broaden the research horizon of multimodal metaphor. With the help of multimodal metaphor,it presents an exoteric, affluent, vigorous, and progressive image of Chongqing City and an enthusiastic,tough,hard-working,and optimistic image of Chongqing people from a new angle.
