| Multiple text comprehension refers to the processes whereby readers make sense of complex topics or issues based on information presented not within a single source but rather across multiple texts,which is of great importance for readers fostering coherent mental representation.“summary-argument” paradigm is the important way of research on multiple text comprehension.In foreign research,there still exists controversy in terms of processing advantages between summary task and argument task.Topic epistemic belief refers to the belief that individuals held about knowledge and the process of knowing about some topic.Topic epistemic belief is the crucial factor among those factors which have effect on multiple text comprehension.Based on the revision of college students’ topic epistemic belief questionnaire,the study compared the disadvantage between summary task and argument task by discussing the influence mechanism of multiple text comprehension from questionnaire research and eye movement behavior mechanism.Experiment 2: using the way of questionnaire investigation to reveal the influence mechanism that the topic epistemic belief,epistemic emotion,and learning strategy affected multiple text comprehension.Experiment 3: “summary-argument” paradigm was used to study the difference of Eye movement index in the high-low epistemic belief at the different conditions of reading tasks.The study result as follows:(1)The topic epistemic belief and curiosity of epistemic emotions had a positive prediction effect on the InterVT.Curiosity of epistemic emotions played a partly mediating effect between the topic epistemic belief and the InterV.(2)In the SVT,the main effect of the reading task was significant.College students had higher SVT score in the summary task than in the argument task.In the InterVT,the interaction of topic epistemic belief and reading task were significant.In the argument condition,the reader with high epistemic belief had higher score than low epistemic belief;In the summary task,there was no significant difference.(3)In the eye movement study,the main effect of the reading task was significant.In the summary task,the duration,the fixation count,the regression count,and the regression time,were more than in argument task.In all,It was the psychology influence mechanism that the topic epistemic belief could directly had an effect on the InterVT,and at the same time could indirectly had an effect on the InterVT through the curiosity of epistemic emotions.The result of questionnaire research and eye movement index supported the processing advantages in summary task. |
