A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of The Pool Of Stars(Excerpt) From The Perspective Of Field Theory

This is an English-Chinese translation report of The Pool of Stars(Chapter1 and Chapter11),which is an adolescent book written by American woman writer Cornelia Meigs.The Pool of Stars tells a story of Elizabeth Houghton,a girl who is about to enter the university,making difficult choices between continuing to prepare for the exam and going on a trip.Through the translation practice,the author hopes that it can enrich the literary works in this field in China,and it can play a positive role in promoting the exchange of adolescents at home and abroad and studying the psychological development of teenagers.This report draws on the field theory of Pierre Bourdieu,an internationally renowned French sociologist,to study the translation of adolescent literature.Meanwhile,based on the problems encountered in translation and combined with specific cases,this paper discusses the strategy of field theory applied to the translation of adolescent literature from three aspects: culture,history and geography.There are four parts in this report.The first part is the general introduction to the source of the translation about the writer and her novel.The second part includes preparation before translation,translation process and necessary work after the process.The third part is case analysis,which discusses the theoretical framework of field theory,and then discusses the application of field theory in the English-Chinese translation of adolescent literature,which is the core part of this report.And the last part is the summary of what has been learned from the translation experience.Through the practice,the author of this report deeply understands that in the process of translation,it is necessary to take into consideration the field theory,the actual meaning of the text and the features of adolescent literature,and meanwhile make reasonable choices and adaptation to guarantee the quality of translation.
