With the development of economic globalization,English and English vocabulary learning has become more and more important.At present,more and more students are enrolled in universities,majoring in art every year in China.However,these college students have many problems in English learning and English vocabulary learning has become the focus and difficulty of their college English education.Basing on the above background,this study takes art major college students(major in performance/visual communication art,etc.)of X University as the research object and uses two research methods—— questionnaires and interview to explore the correlation between students' English vocabulary learning strategies and their English scores.After analyzing the data,the following conclusions are drawn:1.There are some problems in the English learning of art college students.Art college students have a weak English foundation.They spend less time learning English and their interests in learning English are not high;as for teachers,they don't have enough English classes and their teaching tasks are heavy.2.It is found that art college students surveyed in this study use metacognitive strategies,cognitive strategies and social/emotional strategies to varying degrees.The most frequent strategies used by art college students are cognitive strategies while social/emotional strategies were the least used by art students.3.There are certain positive correlations between the using of English vocabulary learning strategies and academic performance of art college students.4.There are significant differences in the use of metacognitive strategies,cognitive strategies and social/emotional strategies between high-score students and low-score students(P<0.05),and high-score students use the above three strategies more frequently than low-score students.Based on the above research results,this study proposes several teaching suggestions to improve English vocabulary learning of art college students:First,teachers should stimulate students' interests and enhance their autonomy in vocabulary learning.Second,teachers should impart knowledge related to vocabulary learning strategies and cultivate students' awareness of using vocabulary learning strategies.Third,teachers should combine vocabulary teaching with art majors and situational teaching.
