In linguistics, metaphor is a rhetorical device that replaces one thing with another.Semantics believes that when there is an interaction between ontology and metaphor, metaphor arises.American cognitive linguists Lakoff and Johnson(1980)had analyzed a lot of metaphors and showed that metaphors use the source domain(specific perceptions or concepts, such as upper, lower, cold, warm, etc.)to understand the target place(invisible, abstract concepts such as devils,angels,power,sex,etc.).This can be better reflected in philosophy. The more strictly and abstractly, the more metaphors are used, because people use metaphors for abstract thinking. The concept of tolerance is an abstract concept that individuals often use in their daily lives.Chinese people tend to use words such as "big and big","big and generous",and other words or sentences to describe a person's tolerance is stronger;words such as "small belly chicken" and "small eyes" are used to describe a person's tolerance is poor.Based on the above elaboration of conceptual metaphor, this study suspects that it is not an incidental phenomenon in life to use size to express the concept of tolerance, but because people have established a solid cognitive framework between them, that is,they have formed the metaphorical representation of the concept of tolerance and the concept of size. Therefore, this research intends to explore the metaphorical mapping relationship between the abstract concept and the specific concept of tolerance and the factors affecting the metaphor mapping through three experiments.Experiment 1 used the variant of the Stroop experimental paradigm to explore whether there was a metaphorical structure between the concept of tolerance and the specific concepts in space and whether there was a gender difference in the metaphorical structure? The results showed that: There was a metaphorical mapping between the concept of tolerance and the specific concept of size in space; The different body effects was obtained from the representation of the concept of tolerance in different genders, and the males obtained from the metaphor mapping more effects than women.Experiment 2 used the concept startup paradigm to explore whether the initiation of the concept of tolerance affects the individual's perception of the size of things, whether the metaphor map was one-way or not.And the influence of pleasant personality traits on the metaphor representation was discussed. The results showed that: Metaphor map was bidirectional;Individuals with high agreeableness gained more physical effects than individuals with low agreeableness.Experiment 3 used the social context paradigm to explore whether the metaphor representation still exists when a complex social background was given, that was, whether metaphor mapping exists socially. And the modulation effect of pleasant personality traits in the metaphor representation process was discussed. The results showed that: The metaphorical structure between the concept of tolerance and the specific concept of size was social;Open personality trait had a modulation effect in the framework of the two concepts.Compared with individuals with low openness, individuals with high openness will gain more physical effects. In summary,it can be concluded that:1.The concept of tolerance exists in the representation of size and metaphor, and the metaphorical representation has two-way and social characteristics;2.Between a pleasant and open-minded individual relative to a low individual tolerance concept and size concept Stronger connection;3.Compared with women, men are more likely to undergo cognitive and behavioral changes through a tolerant social body effect.
