In recent years,with the rapid development of computer technology,multimedia learning has attracted more and more attention.How to design multimedia elements to promote learners’ meaningful learning has also become a hot issue.At present,researchers have put forward a series of multimedia design principles,such as the personalization principle,to optimize the design of multimedia elements and achieve meaningful learning.Some studies have shown that the personalization principle has a positive effect on the learning effect of multimedia learners,while others have shown that the personalization principle has a negative effect on the learning effect of multimedia learners.So how does the personalization principle affect learning outcomes?How to determine the scope of the personalization principle?These questions remain to be explored.This study using eye tracking technology to college students as subjects,using 2(language:personalized language style,formal language style)x 3(learning material properties: positive,neutral,negative)between participants experimental design,attempts to examine the applicability of the personalization principle under the background of Chinese,and it’s different in different materials the suitable degree(positive,neutral and negative).The content of positive learning materials is the promotion effect of positive emotions,the content of neutral learning materials is the formation of lightning,and the content of negative learning materials is the formation process of influenza.There are two ways to deal with the personalized language style:using the first and second person;Add words that directly describe the learner.The results show that in the positive and neutral materials,the adoption of personalized language style improves the transfer performance of learners.In the negative materials,personalization has the reverse effect,and personalized language style reduces the transfer performance of learners.Eye movement results show that in positive materials,personalized language style could attract more attention from learners.The results of this experiment are instructive to the practice ofmultimedia design.For learning materials of negative nature,it is recommended not to use personalized language style.For the positive and neutral materials,it is suggested to design the learning materials in a personalized language style,so as to promote the learners to complete the learning tasks better.This study partlysupport the hypothesis by investigating the potential cognitive process of the principle of individuation.Therefore,in future studies,it is suggested to use a variety of technologies to discuss it,so as to determine how the principle of individuation affects the cognitive process of learners and how to promote performance of learners. |
