Interaction Between Paratext Of Translation And Era Field

The paratext of translation gradually enters the focus of translation studies.It includes preface,postscript and other texts on or by translators,which can perform as a tool in reconstructing the images of original authors and works,and thus guiding the readers of different times.The thesis focuses on the different translations of The Grapes of Wrath of different times.Different versions of its translation,with slightly differences in text part though,are of great differences and distinct characteristics in paratexts in combination with the course of China's political contexts.Hence this thesis chooses representative translations of The Grapes of Wrath of different times and takes their paratexts as the main subject especially,with a time span from during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,after the founding the new China,after the Reform and Opening-up,until the 21 th century.The thesis adopts a diachronic research approach,through the scope of Bourdieu's Field theory,analyzes how the paratext of different times interprets their translations and explores the roles of translations in different times.The thesis finds that the paratexts of translations in different times has different focuses,and the changes are in corresponding with their historical background.The performances of translations are affected by politics and economy of certain era Field.And paratext functions in the beginning as a tool for the translators to link the translations with the mainstream of times,and evolves into introductory and rather neutral critics by authorities,until later becomes basically invisible.Their interaction with the times is also an important witness of how literature translation serves for political purposes and then turns to focus on the literary values.
