In recent years,with the continuous progress of the new curriculum reform,the cultivation of students' ability has become the top priority of China's education.In English class,we should not only impart students' theoretical knowledge,but also pay attention to the cultivation of students' various abilities.In the process of cultivation,critical thinking ability has become the focus of attention of scholars from all walks of life.In The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017 Edition),critical thinking ability is regarded as an important component of thinking quality under the core quality of English discipline.Therefore,it is imminent to investigate students' critical thinking ability in senior high school English classroom.This paper focuses on the cultivation of students' critical thinking ability in senior high school English classroom teaching,starting from the current situation and causes of this situation,it is expected to cultivate students' critical thinking ability,improve students' ability to analyze and solve problems through the teaching suggestions in senior high school English classroom,so as to promote the development of the English key competencies of senior high school.In this paper,the questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview are applied to investigate the current situation of the critical thinking ability of the students in the English classroom of Tongliao No.5 Middle School.First of all,this thesis investigates the current situation of senior high school students' critical thinking ability,analyzes the reasons for the current situation of senior high school students' critical thinking ability and puts forward suggestions on how to cultivate senior high school students' critical thinking ability in English class.The result show that:(1)The ability of critical thinking of senior students is relatively weak,but the ability of reasoning and elaboration is relatively strong.(2)The reasons for students' lack of thinking ability are internal and external factors.(3)The training of English classroom teaching can improve students' critical thinking ability.According to the results of the survey,this thesis puts forward some suggestions:Firstly,creating an English classroom atmosphere appropriately.Secondly,cultivating students to read critically.Thirdly,guiding students to think independently.
