The UN-specific texts feature neutral stances, clear statements, formality, consistency and rigorousness as it involves interests of all member states. To make the expressions in the text rigorous, people often use a variety of restrictive components that inadvertently compose long sentences. This paper summarizes thorny issues in terms of the translation of long sentences including the subordination issues caused by the uses of prepositions and postpositive attributes in the present particle form, the location of modifiers with complicated structures, the logic within a sentence and the impact by concepts, metaphors and some untranslatable things in the original texts.Based on the existing studies, the paper involves the methodology of comparison and induction. The paper compares the draft and revised translations to conclude useful strategies in translating UN-specific long sentences. It introduces five strategies,in syntactic and semantical aspects respectively,to the translation of long sentences including the analysis of the main sentence structure, the correct identification of the head element and the syntactic reorganization of components in a sentence,as well as the analysis of the logic within a sentence and the proper domestication of original expressions into Chinese. This paper is expected to have certain influences on other UN-specific text translations.
