| English is important in international communication.The focus on English textbooks has also increased with the rapid development of college English Education.Textbook is the main tool for teachers’ classroom teaching and students to acquire knowledge,and a good teaching material should not only convey knowledge effectively,but also broaden students’ vision.The emergence of various versions of English teaching materials greatly enriched the choice of teaching materials with the policy of “One Standard,Multiple Versions of Textbook”.So how to choose a suitable teaching material for teachers and students to learn is particularly important.The evaluation of teaching materials is developed on this basis and the analysis of teaching materials in all aspects is conducive to teachers to use the teaching materials better.New Applied College English is a new generation college English textbook published under The Guidelines on Collage English Teaching,officially promulgated by the Ministry of Education in 2017.The purpose of the study is to explore whether this textbook can meet the needs of students,as well as the applicability to students,and provides some suggestions in the revision and use of teaching materials.This study combs and analyzes the relevant literatures about the evaluation of teaching materials at home and abroad,and carefully grasps the present situation of the field,and defines the related concepts.The author pounds the necessity of studying the applicability of the textbook on the basis of the language input hypothesis,the output hypothesis and the theory of needs analysis.First of all,the author analyzes the needs of students(target needs and learning needs),and then uses the literature method to carry out internal evaluation of the guiding ideology,teaching methods,contents and structure of “New Applied College English”.Finally,the questionnaire survey,interview method and the classroom observation were used to investigate,interview and observe 132 students and 5 teachers majoring in electronic commerce and food science management in order to get the external evaluation and feedback of the textbook.The results show that the teaching material has moderate difficulty,large input volume and rich genre,and the teaching material satisfies the needs of most students in the aspects of teaching material contents and teaching methods,so the textbook is suitable for students.However,there are few hearing and grammar knowledge in the textbook,and the oral activities are difficult.Therefore,the author suggests that increasing the quantity of hearing and grammar knowledge,reducing the difficulty of oral activities,and choosing the appropriate teaching material contents to meet the needs of students at different stages according to their English level. |
