Teaching material plays an important part in English class for teachers and students as a reference.What’s more,there is a close relationship between the cultivation of students’ thinking quality and the content of English textbook during students’ learning process.The newly published English Curriculum Standard for General High School(2017)puts forward the concept of English Key Competencies,which divides the Key Competencies into four parts: students’ language ability,cultural consciousness,thinking quality and learning ability.There is something about the thinking quality: “Thinking quality refers to the level and ability of thinking logic,thinking criticism,thinking innovation and so on.Thinking quality shows the mental characteristics of the Key Competencies.The development of thinking quality helps to improve students’ ability to solve and Analyze problem,so that they could observe and know the world from a cross-cultural vision,and make a right judgement on the things around them.”This study will discuss three questions: 1.The cultivation of the thinking quality in English textbook.2.The understanding of the thinking quality in English book from teachers and students.3.How to cultivate students’ thinking quality through English text book.This study takes senior high school English textbooks from Foreign Language Study as the research text,takes senior high school English teachers and students as the research object,and takes the goal of cultivating students’ thinking quality in English Curriculum Standard for General High School(2017)as the criterion.This study also analyzes the similarities between the design of English textbook content and the requirements of thinking quality,analyzes whether the cultivation of thinking quality in the textbook is enough,and analyzes teachers and students’ understanding,digestion and application of thinking quality content during the process of using English textbook.Through analyzing some dates and results from the theories,English text book,investigation and interview to put forward some suggestions to improve teaching strategy,learning strategy and textbook compilation.To sum up,through analyzing and studying thinking quality put forward by thenew curriculum standard in the teaching material and the presentation in the classroom teaching.This paper puts forward some relevant suggestions in order to better cultivate students’ thinking quality,improve the content of textbook,and show some advice for teachers and students.In the course of teaching materials,the author should pay attention to the design form of questions to guide and cultivate students’ thinking quality;teachers should study deeply about teaching materials and actively prepare relevant teaching strategies in the course of class,fully mobilize the elements in teaching materials that are beneficial to students’ thinking quality cultivation and improve their sensitivity to thinking quality;students should learn to make positive thinking about the contents of teaching materials and the way teachers guide,so as to better promote the cultivation of their own thinking quality.
