A Report On The Translation Of Black's Law Dictionary(C)

The original text of this translation is selected from Black's Law Dictionary(Tenth Edition).As one of the most widely cited books of law in the world,it contains almost all English legal terms.In addition,it covers technical terms in various areas of law and has been frequently cited by the Federal Supreme Court of the United States.Black's Law Dictionary plays an important role in the western legal field.The translation of it can not only enhance the author's understanding of western laws and improve the author's translation ability of legal texts,but also promote the spread of it in China,so as to enable Chinese legal readers to learn and understand some western legal terms and the common law system.This translation report mainly consists of four parts,namely,translation task description,translation process description,case analysis and the summary.Among them,the case analysis is the focus which is divided into two parts: language and legal culture.For the language part,the author analyzes it from two parts,namely vocabulary and sentences.The author divides the vocabulary into four kinds: words with unique legal meaning,loanwords(including Spanish,Latin and French),special legal terms and verbiage.The author analyzes sentence translation in the original text from four types of sentence patterns,namely adverbial clauses,attributive clauses,passive sentences and long sentences.In the translation process,the author adopts a translation method of combining literal translation with free translation.At the same time,the author consults various legal dictionaries to guarantee correct and accurate translation of legal texts.
