The document of the 101st Session of the Maritime Safety Committee,as a maritime text,is characterized by seriousness, objectivity, and professionalism. The sentence structure of this text is complex with a high frequency of passive sentence. However, the research on the translation of passive sentences in maritime texts in China is not systematic,so it is of some research value. This report is based on some agenda items of the 101st Session of the Maritime Safety Committee document. The passive sentence is selected as the research object with the basis of functional equivalence theory.Taking into consideration the differences between English and Chinese passive sentences, the report, based on specific translation examples,is to analyze and summarize the translation methods of passive sentences in maritime texts. It is concluded that the English passive sentences can be translated into Chinese passive sentences,Chinese active sentences,Chinese judgment sentences and Chinese no-subject sentences,so as to make the translation clear and consistent with the expression habit of target language readers and thus maximize the fulfillment of functional equivalence.
