This paper examines Spiritualism in Victorian Britain. It is based on a belief that the living could establish contact with the spirits of the dead through the means of a medium,a person who is always female.Characterized by its seances, the movement gains a large population of followers. This paper addresses the question: What role does Spiritualism play in the nineteenth century Victorian society? How do they mutually influence each other? The research will employ primary resources, periodicals and newspapers at the time,as well as secondary literature to approach the question. The author concludes that Spiritual Movement is at once religious, social and cultural by its nature.Spiritualism contains two levels of struggle: one is feminist struggle, the other is metaphysical.
