The Study On The Chinese Translation Of Queer Eye From The Perspective Of Queer Theory

Queer theory,firstly emerging in the 1990s,was born under the influence of the gay movement,the third-wave feminist movement,French post-structuralism,psychoanalysis,and Marxism.With its initial application in literary analysis,queer theory has rapidly been professionalized and widely incorporated into various disciplines in the past decades,such as history,literature,cultural studies,philosophy,film studies,politics.social science,humanities,psychology,communication,linguistics,disability theory,jurisprudence,and theologyHowever,in the Chinese mainland,there are only a few relevant researches and the majority of the study still stop with the introduction of queer theory.Only a few scholars use queer theory as a new approach to other disciplines,and in most cases,queer theory is connected with literary and film analysisThere only appear a handful of researches that bridge queer theory and translation studies.Most of these researches argue that queer theory will be a game-changer in translation studies.In the thesis-Research on Reality Show 's Fansuhhing in Light of Queer Theory-A Case Study of Rupaul s Drag Race "s.Fansubbhing,queer theory is used as a new perspective to analyze queer-text translation.The research significance of this thesis lies in two aspects.Firstly,the thesis can serve as another case study to bridge queer theory and translation studies.Secondly,it can provide translators with some empirical suggestions in translating queer textsIn the case study of Queer Eye translation,this thesis firstly analyzes the inaccurate translation of LGBTQ terminology.Then the thesis borrows the ideas of gender construction and gender mutability from queer theory to analyze the Chinese translation of Queer Eye This thesis finds that the translators of Queer Eye completed the construction of-gender by translating some gender-neutral English words into gender-specific Chinese words.Besides,the thesis also analyzes the mutability of gender in Queer Eye and the reflection of the mutability in language.The argument is that translators should keep sensitive to gender mutability and avoid getting such mutability lost in translation.
