In the second language multimedia learning environment, more and more English original audio and video materials are used in the classroom, but the lack of pure oral input environment is a difficult problem to solve, resulting in the limitation of many learners' foreign language proficiency. It is difficult to fully understand the content of the video, but the subtitle text on the screen provides a good support and helps them understand pictures, audio, background information effectively. This paper selects English short videos from Keke English software, and uses video editing software to modify the selected videos.Four subtitle types, namely no subtitle,English subtitle,Chinese subtitle and bilingual subtitle, are used in this research.Learning style is a background variable in four parallel classes of Grade Two of senior high school. This paper discusses the effects of subtitle types and learning styles on English video comprehension and incidental vocabulary acquisition, and then analyzes and discusses the collected data.Firstly, descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of variance(ANOVA)of spss26.0 are used to analyze the test scores of English video comprehension. The results show that there is no interaction between subtitle type and learning style, the main effect of subtitle type is significant, and the main effect of learning style is significant;then, multiple comparisons of subtitle types show that different subtitle types have significant influence on learners' video comprehension performance Among them,Chinese subtitles are the most beneficial to learners' video comprehension, and the group without subtitles has the worst score. The independent sample t test of learning style shows that only in the no subtitle group, there are differences between the visual type and the speech type, and the speech type test scores are generally higher than the visual type.Secondly, descriptive analysis and multivariate analysis of variance show that there is no interaction effect between subtitle type and learning style. The main effect of subtitle type is significant, and the main effect of learning style is not significant. Then, multiple comparisons of subtitle types show that different subtitle types have significant effects on learners' incidental vocabulary acquisition among them. The scores of bilingual subtitle are the highest, which is the most helpful for learners' incidental vocabulary acquisition, while the scores of no subtitle group are the lowest. The independent sample T test of learningstyle shows that there is no difference between the verbal type and the visual type.Based on the existing research results, this paper discusses the conclusions of the study and provides some suggestions on how to design and use video subtitles properly in English Teaching:(1)Appropriate subtitle types should be selected for English video comprehension;(2)Appropriate screen types should be selected for vocabulary teaching;(3)Learning styles should be considered when using multimedia teaching materials.
