Sylvia Chang,a director from Taiwan,the Treasure Island of China,plays many roles.She entered the moviedom initially as an actress,and then made the shift from an actress to director.As early as 1980,Sylvia Chang made her directorial debut in the movie Once Upon a Time,which starts her film creation cause.So far,she has been making films for more than 40 years,directing 14 films in total.Sylvia Chang is one of the most noteworthy female directors in the Chinese film circle.Different with Sylvia Chang's contemporary female directors,she is unique in that composition style that she writes the script,directs it and stars in it,which enables her to express individuality with the camera as the pen.Sylvia Chang sticks to being the voice for the women as a female narrator and reconstructing the female gender position to play against the male dominant ideology.Sylvia Chang is not a productive director,but she is keen on making her own films,bearing the roles of the writer,director and actor at the same time.All the films she creates are stamped with strong personal distinctions,and convey extremely delicate and rich emotions.Therefore,every film can be all called as the conscience of the industry.With the theory of feminist narratology and assisted by Sylvia Chang 's representative films,this paper analyzes the unique female narrative in Sylvia Chang's films on the level of plot and discourse,aiming to deepen the research of Sylvia Chang's films.This paper can be divided into three chapters:The first chapter firstly summarizes the relationship between Sylvia Chang's films and feminist narratology,describes the feminist narratology theory in detail,and introduces the motivation of female narrative in Sylvia Chang's films.The second chapter,with the focus on narrative theme,is to summarize the theme of love,family and friendship in Sylvia Chang's films and expound the emotional world and encounters of women that Sylvia Chang cares for.That is how the paper can extract and analyze the female consciousness and position reflected in the theme selection of her films from the level of plot.The third chapter mainly starts from the narrative discourse and analyzes how Sylvia Chang uses various effective narrative techniques to reveal female voices in her films from the narrative voice and symbol art aspects,so as to embody female subjectivity and establish the authority of female narrative.This paper is to explore Sylvia Chang's films from the perspective of feminist narratology,and analyze how she uses narrative techniques to fight for female voices.Sylvia Chang expresses her feminism thought through films,tries to break the stereotype of gender,hopes to change women ' s marginal status,and clearly presents women's consciousness of seeking self-identity and desire to express themselves.
