| Thrasybulus,an Athenian navy general of classical period.He served as trierarch of a trireme and was elected general in 407 BC.As a naval general,he played an important leading role in the Peloponnesian war and the Corinthian war.He was also a staunch democrat who made great contributions to the overthrow of autocrats and the restoration of democracy.The study of Thrasybulus,the Athenian general,is helpful for us to have a deeper understanding of the evolution of the political system,the characteristics of inter-state relations and social changes in ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian war and the Corinthian war.This paper consists of introduction,body and conclusion.The main contents are as follows:The first chapter mainly introduces the historical background of Thrasybulus’ s life,that is,the ancient Greek society in the classical era.Thrasybulus lived in the era of ancient Greece from prosperity to decline.He lived through the Peloponnesian war and the Corinthian war.Meanwhile,Athenian democracy gradually declined from the golden age,with the emergence of 400 Tyrannies and 30 Tyrannies.In the later period of the Peloponnesian war,Thrasybulus came to the stage of history as a naval general and played an important role in the political and military fields.The second chapter describes the political,military and diplomatic activities of Thrasybulus.This chapter is divided into three parts.First,it describes the actions of Thrasybulus during the Peloponnesian war,in which he helped maintain democracy in Samos,overthrew government of four hundred,and his performance in the campaign that Thrasybulus participated in and led.After the end of the Peloponnesian war with the defeat of Athens,Thrasybulus fled to Boeotia and returned to Athens to lead a campaign to overthrow the Thirty Tyrants and restore democracy.Finally,it mainly introduces the diplomatic activities of Thrasybulus in order to revive the Athenian empire in Boeotia and the northern Aegean sea after the Corinthian war.The third chapter mainly analyzes the influence of Thrasybulus as a generation of Athens’ admiral on Athens from the end of the 5th century BC to the beginning of the 4th century BC.Thrasybulus also played a crucial role in the restoration of democracy and the stability of Athenian society.Although there are some disputes onthe evaluation of Thrasybulus in history,it is undeniable that thrasimus is a historical figure that cannot be ignored in the development of democracy in Athens.Thrasybulus was born at the height of Athens’ glory,but lived through its darkest and darkest moments.Many of his actions stem from his vision of the democracy of his childhood as Pericles,his action also played a positive role in promoting the course of ancient Greek history. |
