Under the background of increasingly serious global ecological crisis,John Bellamy Forster analyzed the causes of ecological crisis by studying and mining Marx's ecological thought, and pointed out that capitalist system is the root of ecological crisis. He believes that in order to solve the ecological crisis,we must carry out the ecological social revolution from the political, economic, cultural and other perspectives, establish an ecological socialist society, and achieve the sustainable development of harmony between man and nature.Forster's thought of ecological revolution is not only a kind of inheritance and development of historical materialism, but also some one-sided understanding of it.First of all,the realistic background and theoretical source of the formation of Forster's ecological revolution thought. The realistic background mainly analyzes from two aspects: the destruction of ecological environment by capitalism and the failure of global ecological reform. The destruction of the ecological environment by capitalism is the most direct cause of the global ecological crisis, and the failure of the global ecological reform proves that in the capitalist world, countries will not conduct in-depth cooperation to govern the global ecological environment at the expense of their economic development speed. The theoretical sources are mainly Forster's ecological Marxism theory and his analysis of ecological crisis.Forster's Ecological Marxist theory is mainly embodied in his book Marx's ecology.Through the book ecological crisis and capitalism,Forster made a deep research on the definition of ecological crisis and the causes of ecological crisis.Secondly, the content of Forster's ecological revolution thought. It mainly includes three aspects: first, the definition of ecological revolution;second, the purpose of ecological revolution;third, the measures of ecological revolution. The definition of ecological revolution is formed by Forster's criticism of ecological reformism and eco industrial revolution theory. The criticism of ecological reformism introduces Foster's criticism on the methods of improving environment and managing ecological crisis put forward by three capitalist economists: natural capitalization, free market and technological reformism. Then,Forster first distinguishes between the eco industrial revolution and the eco social revolution, and concludes that the eco social revolution is the correct form of the eco revolution. The purpose of the ecological revolution is divided into the direct cause-to eliminate the global ecological crisis and the ultimate goal-to build an ecological socialist society. The measures of ecological revolution are carried out from three angles of economy, politics and culture.Thirdly,Forster's theory of ecological revolution is not only the application, inheritance and development of historical materialism, but also the one-sided understanding of historical materialism. The inheritance and development of the theory of ecological revolution in the use of historical materialism is mainly reflected in the inheritance and development of the theory of the relationship between man and nature in historical materialism and the enrichment of the theory of social revolution. The criticism of historical materialism on the theory of ecological revolution mainly criticizes the viewpoint of ecological revolution from the basic contradiction of capitalist society, the understanding of the relationship between economic foundation and superstructure, and the revolutionary way of ecological revolution. Finally, the contemporary value of ecological revolution is mainly discussed from two aspects: the contemporary value of China and the contemporary value of the international.
